If you are unfamiliar with the area, it was once the home of the Naval Training Center. When the base closed in 1997, it began being developed into a mixed use community. With a retail and commercial district, a promenade, an educational district, a residential district, a hotel district, an office district, and a park/open space, there is truly something for everyone. Not to mention the fabulous event spaces!
And it’s not done yet! There are still many buildings left to be renovated and converted, and I hear a museum may even go in to one of the new locations. Always evolving, yet preserving the integrity of the historic buildings.
Our meeting was based on a team building exercise. Attendees were assigned a table, based on their profession in the industry, this ensured most tables had an even mix of florists, planners, DJs, etc.
Once everyone was seated, teams were given an assignment to plan a dream wedding for a celebrity couple. Minimal information was furnished on their wishes, and based on your team selections of colors, mementos, and flowers, you were to work together and plan every last detail of the special day for none other than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
The tables had some time during lunch to go over their ideas and note them. And after lunch they were shared with the rest of the attendees.
It was quite humorous and challenging at the same time!
The winning team had some wonderful ideas for colors, fabrics and entertainment they would present to the celebrity couple!
